Music Workshop – Syllabus
SONGWRITING & MUSIC COMPOSING
This workshop has been designed for young talented Musicians who would like to take their Music experience to the next level. Creating your own music may seem a bit challenging sometimes, but with the right fundamentals of music, this could be a piece of cake.
The short duration of 3 hours entails the understanding of the most deeper basics of music which opens up the creative minds to experimenting with various genres of music.
- Music Theory Basics
- Melody – Notes (Pitch), Scales, Modes
- Harmony – Chords – Triads
- Rhythm – Tempo , Note values. Time Signature
- Chord Progression – Genres & Rhythm, Diatonic and Chromatic Progression and Transposition
- Notation – Clefs, Note Value & Rests, Time and Key Signatures, Slurs & Ties, Dynamics and Accents, Riffs and Vamps
- Song form – Introduction, Pop/Rock Songs, Bridges, Intros & outros, Chorus & Versus and how to read Lead Sheets
- Lyrics – Protocols
- Composing and creating Digital Music arrangements
AUDIO RECORDING
- Digital recording process by using a Digital Work Station e.g. Cubase
- Recording Techniques for various instruments – Strings, Brass, Percussions,
- Recording Techniques for Vocals (Individuals and Group)
- Using VSTs and Plug- ins
- Interfacing with other Music Production Software e.g.Band in a Box
Recording Techniques
- Miking – Vocals and Instruments
- Understanding Studio Accoustics
- Usage of Recording Instruments & Equippment
- Sound proofing and sound absorption
- Studio ambience : Artist/Producer interaction
Mixing
- Blending all the individual tracks in a recording to create a version of the song that sounds as good
- Balancing the levels of the tracks that have been recorded.
- Fine-tuning the sound of each instrument or voice using equalisation (EQ)
- Using Effects (Internal within the Workstation and External plug ins)
- Using Faders to attenuate�� or boost levels of signals
- Panning for signals to left and right
- Compressors
- Using Processors like Reverb, Filters, Denoisers, Auto-tune
Mastering – understanding the role
- Compressors
- Equalisers
- Limiters
- Dithering
- How to obtain radio quality
